Unexpected Afghans: Veledílo Cable Afghan

Unexpected Afghans: Innovative Crochet Designs with Traditional Techniques is a collection of 29 innovative and lively interpretations of crochet afghans. The book is divided into 5 chapters: Cables, Granny Motifs, Color, Lace, and Tunisian. I am in awe how many different afghans with a fresh and modern twist are presented in this collection.

I feel privileged to have one of my crochet afghan designs, the Veledílo Cable Afghan, included in this book. The inspiration for the this afghan was a knitted cabled pillow. I had used a double cable forming diamonds inclosed by a braid on each side laid against textured background of a basket-weave stitch. Robyn Chachula, the author of the book, has named this afghan "Veledílo" [vah-lah-dee-loh] that is a Czech word for "masterpiece". I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw that name. Thank you Robyn.

There are so many beautiful designs that it is hard to pick my favorites. So here only are few of my favorites:

What are your favorites? Leave me a comment here on site about which is your favorite afghan(s) in this book. From all the entries posted by July 6, 2012, midnight EST, I will randomly choose one person to win a free e-copy of Unexpected Afghans.

P.S. And you don't have to pick my afghan as one of your favorites in order to win. :)

There are a lot of nice patterns in that book! I love yours because I'm a cable fanatic. My other favorites are the mission cabled afghan, the peerie blanket, and the starburst enterlac afghan.

Cables are among my favorites so yours is one of them and the other is the mission cabled blanket. Will definitely be trying them both.

There are so many that appeal to me. What I like about this book is the option for a pillow to learn the pattern. When I first returned to crochet after a long absence, cable intriqued me (looking a knitted cable projects), yours is stunning!

There are soooo many stunning designs in this book. I'm absolutely thrilled with yours. The braids are amazing. And I LOVE that you are using so many textures. Everywhere I look on your afghan feels like eye candy!

I am also drawn to the dots and poppies. It just look so fun. But I would think twice before making something with so many ends to weave in! =)

So many of these patterns appeal to me that it is impossible to choose A favorite. One of my favorites is Sunken Treasure by Kristin Omdahl. It would be perfect for my new grandchild coming this winter.

It is so hard to pick a favorite pattern with all the wonderful designs to choose from. I would like to try the Van Gogh Waves because I've never tried Tunisian crochet. I would also like to make the Damask Afghan.

Starburst Entrelac but they're all amazing. I'd just like to try the entrelac technique.

I am so conflicted as to which one of these patterns I should pick as a favorite....I really really do love yours, and the Tunisian ones I have seen are spectacular. The Kaleidoscope by Tammy Hildebrand is probably the first one I would make if I win the book.

I think my favorite is Peacock afghan - it looks like a flower motif.
